Pat Schroeder to Headline East Hillsborough Democratic Club Holiday Party

The East Hillsborough Democratic Club will welcome former congresswoman Pat Schroeder to its 2011 Holiday Party Saturday, Dec. 10 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn Tampa East/Brandon, 10309 Highland Manor Dr., Tampa.

Schroeder was a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives from Colorado, serving from 1973-97.

Though political rivals and some male colleagues at first dismissed her as “little Patsy,” Schroeder became the forceful doyenne of American liberals on issues ranging from arms control to women’s reproductive rights during her 24-year House career.

Schroeder’s biting wit and political barbs—from her seat on the Armed Services Committee, she once told Pentagon officials that if they were women, they would always be pregnant because they never said “no”—helped to make her a household name and blazed a trail for a new generation of women on Capitol Hill.

There will be a cash bar reception from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and dinner and dessert from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Dinner will include pan-seared tilapia with creamy mushroom sauce, sliced roast beef with cracked peppercorn sauce, house salad, garlic rosemary red bliss potatoes, green bean casserole and warm rolls with butter. A festive holiday dessert display will include petit fours, tortes, holiday pies and cakes and mini desserts.
