Hillsborough County Closing Offices, Suspending Services Tomorrow

The closing is a “precautionary measure” as Tropical Storm Isaac makes its way north, according to a media release.

Most Hillsborough County workers are getting a long weekend courtesy of Tropical Storm Isaac.

The county announced a short while ago it was closing government offices and suspending services tomorrow. The closings apply to all county administrative offices that are “non-essential to immediate public health and safety,” according to a media release. “This is to help keep employees and residents safe, by eliminating their need to travel to County offices Monday (tomorrow) in potentially hazardous driving conditions.”

As Isaac makes its way north into the Gulf of Mexico, the county’s Emergency Operations Center is now on 24-hour activation. The entire Tampa Bay region remains under a tropical storm warning, which means hazardous weather is possible.

Here’s a breakdown of county closings:

  • Waste services – The county has suspended all curbside garbage collection for the unincorporated areas on Monday. “Customers should not place any waste materials at the curb,” the release said. “Customers impacted by the Monday collection suspension will be able to put out twice as much trash on their next normal collection day. Also, all Hillsborough County solid waste facilities will be closed to the public on Monday."
  • Supervisor of Elections has announced its offices will be closed on Monday, Aug. 27.
  • The Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County will be closed on Monday, Aug. 27.
  • Hillsborough County Public Schools has announced that all schools and offices will be closed Monday, Aug. 27.
