Governnor to Address Tampa's 9/11 Ceremony

The ceremony will take place today in Joe Chillura Courthouse Square.

The world changed dramatically as a result of that fateful day in 2001 and Hillsborough County doesn't want to forget those who were lost and injured on that day and in the fight for freedom since.

Hillsborough County will hold a communitywide 9/11 Ceremony of Remembrance today at 12:05 p.m. in Joe Chillura Courthouse Square, corner of Kennedy Boulevard and Pierce Street in downtown Tampa.

The 9/11 Ceremony of Remembrance will feature the laying of wreaths on a Trade Center beam for those that perished in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and the resulting military actions. School children from Rampello Downtown Partnership School will perform patriotic musical selections. The United States Air Force will perform a fly-over.

Speakers include Florida Gov. Rick Scott and Adm. Bill McRaven, commander of United States Special Operations Command.

Attendees will receive a free personal-sized commemorative American flag with the Sept. 11, 2001 - Sept. 11, 2011 dates on the staff. Also, "We will never forget" lapel ribbons will be given to those attending the ceremony.

Due to limited supply, flags and ribbons will be given one per person.

There will be free parking for the event in the Pierce Street Garage, which is accessible via the Jackson Street entrance.

The ceremony will also be cablecast live on Hillsborough Television (HTV) on Bright House Channel 622, Verizon Channel 22 and live streaming at www.hillsboroughcounty.org.
