County Proposes Funding for Local Intersection Improvements

The intersection at Bloomindale Ave. and US 301 is one of the intersections for which funding may increase.

The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners will hold a public hearing Dec. 15 at 2 p.m., to consider amending the fiscal year 2011 budget to fund various intersection projects from the Developer/Privately Funded Transportation Project sub-fund.

The proposed amendment would increase the budget for the Valrico/Sydney roads intersection improvements by $142,946,  the U.S. 301/Bloomingdale Avenue intersection improvements by $35,559 and the Causeway/Providence roads intersection by $137,533.

The amendment includes other intersections of the county for a total increase of $1,254,499.

The county commission has an established goal to improve transportation in Hillsborough County by upgrading intersections to accommodate growth. In response to this multiyear strategy, a fund was established to pay for the needed intersection and traffic signal capital improvements. Developer contributions for transportation roadway improvements that are required by zoning conditions and/or subdivision and commercial site construction plan approvals have accrued in this fund. The board's approval of this agenda item will allow this money to be used for its intended purpose.

The hearing will take place at the Frederick B. Karl County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., second-floor boardroom in downtown Tampa

A detailed list of proposed changes is available by visiting the Hillsborough County Planning & Growth Management Department, located on the 20th Floor of County Center, 601 E.
