On Tuesday, July 10, the monthly meeting of the East Hillsborough County Democratic Club will feature an array of candidates making their best efforts to persuade citizens to give them their votes.
The evening will start at 6:30 p.m. at at Barnacle’s Restaurant, 926 Providence Rd., in Brandon with presentations by Group 4 judicial candidates Frances Maria Perrone, Barbara Twine and Lanell Williams-Yulee; and Group 12 judicial candidates Matt Lucas and Nancy Jacobs.
Next, Democrats Craig Latimer and Thomas Scott will discuss their bids to win the nomination for Supervisor of Elections, followed by candidates for Hillsborough County Property Appraiser, Democrat Robert Henriquez and James DeMiro, no party affiliation.
About the candidates:
- Matt Lucas has held the Group 12 judgeship since 2010. Challenger Nancy Jacobs is an attorney in private practice, a Hillsborough County Code Enforcement special magistrate and a former prosecutor at the Office of the State Attorney.
- Maria Frances Perrone is a criminal defense attorney, former prosecutor and former director of the County Court. Barbara Twine is an attorney in private practice, former Senior Assistant County Attorney, former Assistant Attorney General and former contract counsel for the City of Tampa. Lanell Williams-Yulee is an attorney in private practice and a former administrative hearing officer.
- Craig Latimer is the chief of staff at the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office. Thomas Scott is a former county commissioner, former city councilman and a church pastor.
- Robert Henriquez is a former state representative and judicial administrator. James DeMio is the owner of Florida Property International and is a former court administrator.
The East Hillsborough County Democratic Club was formed in 2005. Its president is Mike Angel. Among its core values are a stronger economy, quality education, an improved health care system, support for families and communities, protection of the environment and exemplary American leadership in the world.
With members from Brandon, Riverview, Plant City, Mango, Lithia and points in between, the club’s membership has grown dramatically as the eastern part of the county has increased in political diversity.
