Woodbridge Man Faces Court Date After Allegedly Shooting Officer

Peter Laboy remains in critical condition; preliminary April court date set for suspect Kashif Bashir.

Woodbridge resident Kashif Bashir's preliminary court date has been set for April. He was charged as a suspect in yesterday's shooting of Officer Peter Laboy in Alexandria.

Laboy remains in critical condition this morning after allegedly being shot in the head in Old Town during a routine traffic stop, according to City of Alexandria spokesman Tony Castrilli.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Randy Sengel told Patch Thursday morning that there was a very brief 9 a.m. hearing at the court house and suspect Kashif Bashir is being held without bail at the Alexandria Detention Center.

The Thursday morning hearing was conducted via video hook-up from the jail, Sengel said. Judge Donald Haddock presided.

A preliminary hearing has been set for April 10 at 11 a.m. Bashir is being represented by a public defender, according to Sengel.

Motorcycle officer Laboy Wednesday morning allegedly was shot in the head by Bashir, 27, at the corner of S. St. Asaph and Wilkes Street just outside the playground of Lyles-Crouch Traditional Academy.

Bashir was driving an Alexandria Yellow Cab minivan, according to police reports. Police had issued a lookout for Bashir, who was agitating women in a nearby boutique, reports The Washington Post.

Bashir fled the scene and led other police officers on a car chase into Fairfax County when the cab crashed on Fort Hunt Road, the police said Wednesday.

I pray to God for Officer. Laboy's quick recovery....may God bless him with 100% health....Amen... ..........Public execution....... Is what I demand of the system..... If the shooter is found guilty, than I would request the judge to order a public execution....wild animals that attack humans should be killed right away....I know many will disagree with me, but a lesson is to be taught...let no one criminal animal be given a minimal chance for even to think otherwise.... Our honorable police, the finest are out there to protect us, and Officer. Laboy was just doing his duty....its just unfortunate...

I agree Fizban - I am just surprised they are holding him without bail. My prayers and positive thoughts to Officer Laboy and his family. Without our police officers there would be anarachy. If found guilty, he deserves the death penalty.

I know his son. He was crying so hard at school. Everyone was trying to comfort him. But he was strong. Yesterday he wasn't crying and everyone still asked if he was okay and he said "I'm fine" . :( I have him the biggest hug
