Suspect in Bloomingdale Vehicle Theft Caught Following Chase

Glenn Maxwell of Plant City is accused of stealing a pickup truck and causing damage at Brookside Manor apartments.

A Plant City man is facing multiple charges today after allegedly causing havoc at a Bloomingdale apartment complex.

Glenn Maxwell, 30, of 1036 Wiggins Rd., Plant City, is charged with grand theft auto, burglary of a vehicle, felony criminal mischief and fleeing and eluding deputies.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, at about 9:10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, Maxwell reportedly entered the Ace Hardware store at 865 Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon, where he stole several items. When confronted by the store manager, Maxwell gave him his identification and then fled the store on foot. Deputies responded but were unable to locate Maxwell.

About an hour later, at 10:20 a.m., a work crew resurfacing the tennis court at Brookside Manor apartments on Rosemead Lane at Bell Shoals Road heard one of their work trucks, a 2001 Dodge pickup truck, start up. They then saw Maxwell flee in the truck, damaging the fence of the tennis court and a picnic table in the process.

Deputies caught up with the truck at FishHawk Boulevard and Osprey Ridge Drive and pursued it to Edison and Keysville roads where Maxwell crashed into an orange grove.

He was quickly placed under arrest by deputies. He received no injuries in the crash.
