Services for a 22-year-old Riverview man who died in a car crash Oct, 14 are scheduled Friday, Oct. 19 at the Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, 6919 Providence Road.
The Florida Highway Patrol says John Michael Reyna was driving his 1999 BMW west on the Selmon at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday when he lost control of his car as he approached the 22nd Street exit ramp.
Reyna collided with the steel guardrail and the BMW rotated clockwise, went across the westbound lanes and collided with the concrete barrier wall, the highway patrol said.
The impact ejected Reyna, who was not wearing a seatbelt, and he was thrown over the barrier wall and onto 22nd Street below the overpass, the patrol said.
The car then went back across the westbound lanes and onto the outside paved shoulder where it stopped.
Reyna died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
Born on April 4, 1990, in New York City, he was the son of John Reyna and Sandra (Joaquin) Ocumarez.
His family said he had a passion for cars and loved to take them apart and put them back together.
He was attending college, expecting to graduate this year with a degree in mechanical aviation.
Along with his parents, he is survived by a stepfather, Franklin Ocumarez; a brother, Eduardo Ocumarez; two stepbrothers, Abdiel Ocumarez and Manuel Reyna; and three stepsisters, Maria Del Carmen Reyna, Michelle Ocumarez and Mariana Reyna.
