River Hills Resident Killed in Polk County Crash
Valerie T. Harris died after her car crashed into another car on Ewell Road south of Lakeland.
A 69-year-old Valrico woman was killed Friday, June 14 in a car accident in Polk County, south of Lakeland, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Valerie T. Harris of Fox Squirrel Lane in River Hills died when her car collided with a car driven by Jack L. Roush, 23, of Lakeland.
According to the sheriff's office, Roush was driving west on Ewell Road about 11:45 a.m. and Harris was traveling behind him. Roush attempted to turn left onto Hatcher Road at the same time Harris was attempting to pass him.

Both cars struck trees along the roadway, the sheriff's office said.
Harris, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.

Roush and his passenger, his 16-year-old sister, Olivia, were taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation.
