Explosion in Riverview Barn May Have Been Caused by Meth Lab

Sheriff's investigators are on the scene of an explosion at 836 Center Ave. in Riverview, off Kings Avenue south of Bloomingdale Avenue.

Hillsborough County sheriff's investigators are on the scene of an explosion in Riverview off Kings Avenue south of Bloomingdale Avenue that has left one person in critical condition.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, deputies received a call at 4:09 p.m. Thursday, March 28 indicating that an explosion has occurred in a barn behind a home at 836 Center Ave., Riverview.

When deputies and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived, they found a man with critical burns. He was flown to Tampa General Hospital for treatment.

Currently, detectives in special haz-mat gear, specially trained to investigate clandestine meth labs, are looking for other victims and verifying if the explosion was caused by a meth lab operation.
