DUI Checkpoint Dedicated to Memory of Drunk-Driving Victim

The sheriff's office will set up a checkpoint at State Road 60 and Parsons Avenue tonight.

Tonight's Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office DUI checkpoint at the intersection of Parsons Avenue and State Road 60 in Brandon will be dedicated in the memory of a women killed by a drunk driver 28 years ago.

Col. Greg Brown, a member of the sheriff's DUI Squad, presented a plaque to Linda Unfried in honor of her sister, Josie Palomino.

Following Palomino's death, Unfried decidated her life to providing awareness of the dangers of drunk driving. She currently serves as the Hillsborough County chapter president for Mothers Against Drunk Drivers.

The sheriff's office will continue to dedicate checkpoints in the future to a family whose loved one has been killed by a drunk driver.

"We will continue to lead the effort in arresting drunk drivers and removing them from our roadways in hopes one day these dedications will no longer be needed," said Sheriff David Gee.

The Thursday, Jan. 26 checkpoint at Parsons and State Road 60 will begin at 11 p.m.
