Car Strikes 12-Year-Old in Riverview

The girl is in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating an accident in which a 12-year-old Gibsonton girl was hit by a car while crossing Big Bend Road near Heritage Greens Parkway Nov. 12 at about 10 a.m.

Mikayla Wiles, of 12909 Parkington Drive, Gibsonton, was hit by a 2010 Nissan Altima driven by Nicole R. Troupe, 36, of 13524 Prestwick
Drive, Riverview.'

According to the sheriff's office, the girl was thrown about 70 feet by the impact. She was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition. The girl's mother, who was nearby when her daughter was hit, is at the hospital with her daughter.

Detectives are still investigating and have no definitive answers yet on how and why this occurred.

The driver of the Nissan was not injured.
