Small Business Advocate Mourned

Lyle S. Hasty died July 21 at the age of 76.

Family and friends will celebrate the life of Lyle S. Hasty of Valrico who died July 21 at the age of 76.

The service will take place July 26 at 5 p.m. at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home in Riverview. 

Hasty was born March 3, 1937, in Toledo, Ohio, to Albert and Edith (Munson) Hasty. He served his country for eight years in the Navy Reserves.
In 1980 he was the first recipient of the Manatee County Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Person of the Year Award.
He also worked with U.S. Rep. Andy Ireland to create a bill to help small businesses in Florida and helped to develop a machining program at Manatee VOTEC.

He loved aviation, boating and spending time with his family. 

Hasty is survived by his wife of 54 years, Peggy; son, Brad Hasty (Debbie); daughters, Julie Wittmer (Kenny), Jill Weirich (Jerry); his brother, Jerry Hasty; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Sylvia Berkey, and his brother, Craig Hasty.

Memorials may be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation.
