Wok Chi Brings Fresh Casual Chinese Food to Regency Square

Those in search of healthy, Chinese food in Brandon will find themselves in Regency Square.

I've been hearing the recent buzz surrounding the opening of Wok Chi in Regency Square, and I decided to check it out for myself and attended their media tasting last week.  The Chinese restaurant labels itself as "fresh casual" and I quickly realized why.  From the moment you enter, passing the "wok this way" sign and moving up to the register to place you order, the restaurant's sleek and modern interior makes a lasting impression.  The use of bold colors combined with the open kitchen and dining room "chi" (energy) sets the tone for unique, Chinese food experience.

At the register, you can order from a variety of stir frys (Zesty Orange; Ginger Sesame; Kung Pao; Not-So-General Tso's; Sweet and Sour; Spicy Szechuan; Wok Chi Fried Rice; and Wok Chi Fried Noodles), select your protein (Chicken; Pork; Tofu; Shrimp; or Beef), add any Dim Sum or Soup, drink and dessert.   All the food is cooked to order so you're given a tracker and the food will be brought to you.

I played for a while at their FreeStyle Coca Cola machine and created my own signature concoction.   Before finding my table, I watched the Wok Masters preparing the dishes.  The food at Wok Chi is seared in a wok at extremely high temperatures, locking in the flavor.   No MSG is used in any of their food.  The menu focuses on fresh and healthy options - crisp veggies and natural proteins with just-the-right amount of sauce.  At the media dinner a variety of dishes were offered and I must say that the Ginger Sesame Beef and the Edamame Jiaozi are absolute must-haves.  I usually tend to shy away from ginger dishes  but the dish looked so appealing I couldn't help myself.  The sauce was amazing, containing the perfect balance of ginger with fresh beef and crisp broccoli. I also tried the Wok Chi Fried Rice with Chicken and fell in love with the flavor
combination.

Most importantly, the restaurant features two "Chi-Bon" options for dessert: the Crispy Custard Chi-Bon and the Crispy PB&J Chi-Bon.  It was a close call, but I had to go with the Crispy Custard Chi-Bon as my favorite -  sweet, creamy dessert bun with a warm coconut custard center and crispy shell.

Wok Chi opened earlier this month in Regency Square at 2420 Regency Boulevard in Brandon and are open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.  For more information, check out their website at wokchi.com
