Loss of Constitutional Rights Happening at the Hands of Both Parties

Both parties killing the Constitution

It happend with the Patriot Act that was created shortly after 9/11.  With this single piece of legislation, the 4th amendment was put on life support.

Now, in more modern times, we have NDAA, or the so called "National Defense Authorization Act," which allows for the federal government to suspend habeas corpus.

Article I, Section 9, Clause 2 of our Constitution states, "The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it."

This mostly shuts down the 5th and 6th amendment. I am pretty sure that there is this pesky little thing referred to as the amendment process that comes into play when talking about making changes to the Constitution.

Let's move on to the Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011, which passed in the House of Representitives by a 388-3 vote, and was signed by the president on Dec. 31, 2011, and seems to be an attempt at shutting down the portion of the 1st amendment citing peoples' right to peacefully assemble.

How about the TSA and their willingness to take inappropriate pictures of you, or feel you up without even taking you to dinner first? Another blow to the 4th.

But, these laws are not coming from one side of the aisle. This is coming from both parties, and the perceived win for the GOP in 2010 in congressional and senate races have not done us much good when you look at the legislation that has passed since the 112th Congress took over.

This should not be a partisan issue. I fear that all of this is being done in an effort to compromise or to conform to the views of the rest of the world.  But just think where we would be if we chose to conform to British rule, and do King George's bidding? If we would have just said, "Let's not ruffle any feathers, let's just be good little sheep," we might have never known freedom. Whether we identify as Republican or Democrat, we are all Americans.
