Winterfest Returns to Winthrop Town Centre

The Greater Brandon Community Foundation is planning a weekend filled with activities guaranteed to help the biggest Scrooge get into the spirit of the season.

The foundation is hosting its second annual Winterfest at Winthrop Town Centre at 6030 Winthrop Town Centre Ave., Riverview, at the intersection of Bloomingdale Avenue and Providence Road Dec. 2-4.

The festivities kick off Friday night from 7 to 9 p.m. with a tree lighting in the town square, entertainment, s'mores and family holiday movies, "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Christmas Story." Be sure to bring chairs or blankets.

Winterfest continues Dec. 3 starting at 10 a.m. with a vendors fair featuring holiday crafts and gift items, Santa's Kid's Workshop featuring face painting, Christmas crafts, games, treats and a chance to see Santa, and a kids' fun zone with bouncy houses, a hayride and other activities.

The activities run until dusk and include entertainment throughout the weekend by the Riverview High School Marching Band, Winthrop Charter School Choir, Earl Harris Karate, Powerhouse, Julestarz, the Riverview High School Chorus, South Shore Sound, the ELITE Team from Music Showcase, Judy's Dance Academy and True Company.

Lunch with Santa will be offered Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Green Iguana at Winthrop. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for children or $12 for children including a photo with Santa.

The Winterfest will continue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
