The Fun Begins...Honorary Mayor Candidates Plan Fundraisers

Three candidates are vying for the honorary title.

With three candidates tossing their hats into the ring for the race to become honorary mayor of Riverview, residents are now in for seven weeks of fundraisers.

Candidates Christian Beiter of Preservation 1st Financial Group, Cliff Kennedy of Alley Cat Pest Control and Michelle Mosher of Great Florida Insurance South Shore announced their plans to vie for the honorary title at a kickoff party Aug. 6 at Barnacles in Brandon.

As is customary during the honorary mayor's race, candidates host fundraisers for their selected charities during the campaign period. The candidate who raises the most money for charity will be declared the winner.

Beiter's charity of choice is YMCA Camp Cristina. Kennedy will raise funds for the Rotary Club of FishHawk-Riverview Foundation and Honor Flight of West Central Florida. And Mosher's charities are Honor Flight of West Central Florida and Voices For Children of Tampa Bay.

Kennedy kicked off his campaign immediately, offering Mentally Infested Messages Singing Telegrams. Supporters can order a singing telegram by contacting Lisa Kennedy at 813-671-3838 or lisa@alleycatpestcontrol.com.

Kennedy also is planning:

  • "A Toast for Our Nation's Heroes" after-hours event Friday, Aug. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sun City Center Funeral Home, 1851 Rickenbacker Dr., Sun City Center;
  • A "Fight for Flight" Mock Boxing Match Friday, Sept. 6 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Title Boxing Club of Brandon, 889 E. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon;
  • And a fundraiser Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Ruskin VFW Memorial Post 6287, 5120 U.S. 41 N., Ruskin.

Mosher's fundraisers include a Misters and Misses for Mosher charity bachelor/bachelorette auction Thursday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. at The Preserve at Alafia. She's also offering friends a chance to buy out of the obligation of helping Mosher pack boxes and move from Wesley Chapel to Riverview.

Mosher will announce other fundraisers on her Facebook page.

Beiter is still in the process of planning his fundraisers.

Funds raised will be collected at the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon Tuesday, Sept. 24 and the winner will be announced at the Oct. 23 chamber membership meeting.

Last year's race, won by Elijah Heath, netted $12,000 for local charities.
