Bloomingdale L3272 Fire fighters “Fill their Boots” for MDA
CHICAGO– On Friday, May 11th the Bloomingdale Fire Department Local 3272 started their first of three days on the local street corners filling the boot for MDA. The department raised over $5,400 in their first day alone, a success to be shared with the whole community.
Motorists soon enough will have two more opportunities to "Fill the Boot", as local fire fighters station themselves at intersections to collect donations benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The fundraiser is set for Friday, May 25th and Friday, June 8th from 4:00pm-7:00pm. The drive, on both days, will be held at the intersections of Army Trail Road & Bloomingdale Road and at Schick & Gary
Fire fighters from the Bloomingdale Fire Department Local# 3272 will be taking part in the annual "Fill the Boot" national campaign. All proceeds from the ‘boot drive’ will benefit local adults and children that are affected by any of the 43 neuromuscular diseases covered by MDA.
Last year, Bloomingdale L3272 fire fighters raised $10,258 and fire fighters nationally raised more than $24 million for MDA research, equipment, programs, youth camps and more.
“We would like to thank the Bloomingdale citizens, and the surrounding towns, for always supporting our Fill the Boot efforts,” said Dave Miller, a fire fighter from the Bloomingdale #3272. “Our Department would not be able to help MDA eradicate neuromuscular diseases without their generous donations.”
MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. In addition to funding more than 330 research teams worldwide, MDA maintains a national network of some 200 hospital-affiliated clinics; orchestrates hundreds of support groups for families affected by neuromuscular diseases and facilitates extraordinary local summer camp opportunities for thousands of youngsters fighting progressive muscle diseases.
