Valrico Man's Body Found in Alafia River

The 44-year-old had been last seen around 6 p.m. Sunday as he exited the bow of his motorboat, officials report.

A 44-year-old Valrico man's body was found in the Alafia River on Monday morning, about 17 hours after he went missing while aboard a motorboat, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reported.

FWC officials confirmed the body found in the river around 10:45 a.m. Monday was that of Frankie Diaz, who was last seen around 6 p.m. Sunday as he exited the bow of an 18-foot motorboat. The incident occurred between the Interstate 75 and U.S. 41 bridges, according to a news release.

An FWC spokesman said Monday morning it was still unclear what happened to Diaz.

"Basically, he went off the bow of the boat around 6 p.m.," FWC spokesman Gary Morse said. "We don't have any more info."

Morse said there were two other people also aboard the boat at the time who reported the incident.
