Propane Leak Forced Temporary Evacuation at St. Stephen Carnival

Fire officials were on scene to stop the leak. No injuries were reported.

The fun has been put on hold following a propane tank leak at St. Stephen Catholic School’s carnival.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue has closed down and evacuated the 11th Annual Spring Jubilee in Riverview as Hazardous Incident Team workers burn the gas and empty the tank, according to fire officials.

The incident occurred just after 1:30 p.m., April 13, when the leak was discovered by event workers. Fire officials say the 500-pound container was somehow compromised and was being used to fuel barbecue grills.

There are no reported injuries.

Fire officials were able to tighten the valve and stop the leak as of 2:49 p.m.

“The engine crews are breaking down hose lines and when they are complete they will allow the St. Steven School carnival to reopen,” according to a news release.

The carnival began Thursday, April 11 and runs through Sunday, April 14. Stay with Patch for updates.
