Family Copes With Aftermath of Savage Storm
A home south of Bloomingale Avenue and Watson Road bears the brunt of a storm that brought tornado-like devastation with the uprooting of mature trees.
Cheryl Mestas said she was standing by the sliding glass door with her grandson, “looking out at the rain,” when she noticed the drops were parallel to the ground as she heard “popping" noises and a “roaring” sound. When she opened the door, she added, “we all started screaming.” These pictures show the aftermath of that moment, which Mestas described in “American Dream Sours for Family Stricken by Savage Storm.” The home is at 2213 Cornell Drive in Riverview, between Brandon and Winthrop, just north of Symmes Elementary School and south of Bloomingdale Avenue, off Watson Road.
