5 Things to Know Today, July 30

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. River of Life Christian Center, 16110 U.S. 301, will host a Back-to-School Health Fest today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in partnership with Wholesome Community Ministries. Children will receive supplies, haircuts, nutritional education and free health screenings. For information, contact Carlos Irizarry at 813-404-5984.

2. The Keep Our Angel Home barbecue benefit for the Bloomingdale library attack victim will take place today at E.G. Simmons Park, 2401 19th Ave. N.W., Ruskin, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $8, and there's a $2 park entry fee. Children 12 and younger will be admitted for free.

There will be a bake sale, silent auction, raffle, live music and children's activities, said the victim's sister.

3. Teachers will be appreciated at MOSI with free admission now through Aug. 26. There also will be $5 off for their family members (up to six members). In addition, teachers will save 10 percent at MOSI’s Elements Gift Shop on personal purchases or purchases for their classrooms.  Teachers must present school identification or other proof of employment. The admission offer may not be combined with other offers or discounts and excludes special engagement exhibitions, films, events and the Sky Trail Ropes Course. The gift shop discount excludes gift certificates and telescopes. 

4. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 75 provides free, no-obligation vessel safety inspections for recreational boaters. These inspections take about 15 minutes and are available at E.G. Simmons Park in Ruskin on the first and third Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at Williams Park in Gibsonton the second and fourth Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

5. Dancin' Motion School of the Arts in Bloomingdale Commons at 127 W. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon, will host Latin Lyrical Dance with Diana Ayra Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $40 per month and the class is open to age 8 through adults. Register online at www.dancinmotionsa.com.
