Biblical Faith or Cultural Faith?

Is your faith in the Yehoveh? Or, does it lie first in self, convenience, and wants? Do we believe God's Word is true and unchanging, or continuously changes as the world in which we live changes?

As a true pro-life (no exceptions) believer, I am often a lightning rod for those who are pro-life EXCEPT in the cases of rape, incest, or life/health of a mother. I don’t understand how that position is “pro-life,” at least not from a biblical perspective.

The Bible says Yehoveh is the Author of ALL life (Psalm 139:13-16). His Sixth Word (Commandment) is “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13). In my Bible, there are no exceptions listed for that commandment.

Proverbs 6, beginning in verse 16, tell us there are six things the Lord hates, seven which are an abomination. One of those 6/7 is “hands that shed innocent blood.” (v. 17). If there is innocent blood that is being shed in this country, it is through the tragedy of abortion.

A debate with an “exception pro-lifer” (they are never conversations) last night was still on my heart this morning when the Lord prompted me with this question ...

Should our faith be based on God’s Word and who He is and what He has promised and commanded; or, should our faith be a by-product of our current culture?

That question hit me like a 2x4. And I believe it is why so many Christians in America have lost sight of, as well as the ability to tap into, the power of an Almighty and Sovereign God who loves His children beyond measure.

We have put what we believe is right in front of what Yehoveh has told us is right from HIS perspective, and the ONLY perspective that has merit or relevance. That flawed and weakened position - self first - has left us morally and spiritually bankrupt. A position upon which Satan just loves to capitalize. The moment he has us compromising, conceding and trading our biblical principles, he’s got us right where he wants us ... in his clutches.

I attended the stellar “Screwtape Letters” show on Sunday and what hit me anew was the comment about big sin vs. little sin. We humans love to play the “my sin isn’t as big or as bad as” .... But, it is often the accumulation of “little” sins that are our complete undoing. Those little sins begin with compromising our values, one value at a time ... and we barely even notice until we are completely ensnared.

It’s not easy to walk in God’s ways, especially when we have a culture that tells us we can choose to murder the innocent when it suits us; allow, even embrace and encourage, relationships which the Lord calls an abomination; tolerate those idolatrous religions which brought great punishment and discipline to the Israelites; and agree with politicians (by electing and re-electing them) who believe it is their right to give away God’s land (Israel).

Where is your faith today? Is it in a Sovereign and Unchanging God? Or, is it yielding to an ever-increasing me-centered, wicked, and rebellious culture?
