Winthrop Town Founder Talks About Construction Under Way

Construction continues at the neotraditional town at the corner of Bloomingdale Avenue and Providence Road, founded by John and Kay Sullivan of Valrico.

What's going on at Winthrop? The construction in view now on Bloomingdale Avenue, between Watson and Providence roads, is for the upcoming Egg & I breakfast eatery and for another restaurant yet to be named.

But this is just a sampling of the commerce that will line the Bloomingdale Avenue border of the neotraditional community founded by John and Kay Sullivan.

The area is west of the Winthrop Events Centre — which features the Barn Theatre at Winthrop and the Winthrop Pole Barn — and east of Regions Bank.

"There's about 500,000 square feet left [to develop] on Bloomingdale Avenue," John Sullivan said. "People don't realize how much is going to be there. A lot of it is going to be housing."

In comparison, the existing Winthrop Town Centre of comprises about 150,000 square feet, Sullivan said. Anchored by a brick-facade Publix, the center's tenants include the Green Iguana, Acropolis Greek Taverna, Five Guys Burgers & Fries, Moe's Southwestern Grill and Cappy's Pizza restaurants. Also included in the mix are Starbucks, Winthrop Liquors, Soho Optics, Menchie's Frozen Yogurt, the Brandon Lakes Animal Hospital and the Aveda Spa & Salon.

Upcoming housing along Bloomingdale Avenue, Sullivan said, will include live-work units.

None...too much traffic on Bloomingdale now.

I live at the Winthrop village and I love it, very original neighborhood. I was tired of those look alike houses and communities that we see everywhere in Tampa with a boring basic architecture. Where we are now everything is at walking distance no need to drive; just name it: great schools, restaurants, family doctors, coffee shop, Publix, Wal-Mart, 24hrs Gym…..Etc. The housing market there will eventually go higher very soon due to the beautiful Sullivan neotraditional projects coming up soon. Few months ago my neighbor rented his only 1900 sq/foot with a very small yard for $1750.00 over night. It’s where you want to be in Brandon/Riverview. IF YOU ARE URBAN AND DON’T LIKE TO BE ISOLATED FROM THE WORLD IT'S THE PLACE TO BE.

A trader joe s. would be great and would be a unique establishment to have in this area ...

Just broke ground this week on our new Spencer plan. Glad to hear you like it - we are very excited!

Agreed but I don't know if this block can support a trader joes, Publix, and that awful walmart market.
