Winthrop Restaurant Sets Opening Date, Hiring Under Way

A free meeting room and free Wi-Fi are among the particulars noted for the upcoming breakfast- and lunch-eatery.

At the Winthrop Town Centre, east of Regions Bank, on a street named for the founding Winthrop family, The Egg & I is planning for a Sept. 23 opening, according to an email sent by Michael Sells, a restaurant official.

  • Note: This article has been updated to reflect the planned opening date, which is different from the date noted on a sign in the upcoming eatery's front window.
"There have been some recent changes to our opening date due to construction-related delays," Sells said. "The opening has been pushed back to September 23."

Moreover, he added, on Sunday, Sept. 22, restaurant officials are set to host an invitation-only, soft-opening fundraiser to benefit the Emergency Care Help Organization (ECHO) of Brandon.

"We are excited about bringing our excellent food and service to the Riverview-Brandon community," Sells added.

The restaurant is at 11220 Sullivan Street, where a box of application forms is attached to the front window, where an outdated sign announcing an earlier opening date was seen Friday. Winthrop's town founders are Kay Sullivan and her husband, John, who is a past president of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce.

Additional eatery particulars are noted online, at The Egg & I website.

"There's about 500,000 square feet left [to develop] on Bloomingdale Avenue," John Sullivan said in an earlier Patch interview. "People don't realize how much is going to be there. A lot of it is going to be housing."

In comparison, the existing Winthrop Town Centre comprises about 150,000 square feet, Sullivan said. Anchored by a brick-facade Publix, the center's tenants include the Green Iguana, Acropolis Greek Taverna, Five Guys Burgers & Fries, Moe's Southwestern Grill and Cappy's Pizza restaurants. Also included in the mix are Starbucks, Winthrop Liquors, Soho Optics, Menchie's Frozen Yogurt, the Brandon Lakes Animal Hospital and the Aveda Spa & Salon.
