Who will claim the title of honorary mayor of Riverview?
Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce members will find out today at the chamber's monthly luncheon.
The luncheon will take place at 11:30 a.m. at The Regent, 6437 Watson Rd., Riverview.
Throughout August and September, candidates Elijah Heath of the Rotary Club of FishHawk-Riverview, Molly Blanton of the Gulf Ridge Council of the Boy Scouts of America and Mary Boyd of C1 Bank in Riverview hosted fundraisers as part of their bids to become the community's next honorary mayor.
During the annual event, the candidate who raises the most money for his or her designated charity is declared the winner.
Heath, a financial adviser with Edward Jones in Lithia, raised funds for the FishHawk-Riverview Rotary Foundation.
Blanton, district executive of the Gulf Ridge Council, held fundraisers for the Scouts.
Events ranged from a pub crawl and wine tasting to a murder-mystery dinner theater and a yappy hour.
Funds from all of the candidates' fundraisers were turned in Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. with every dollar raised representing one vote.
The winner will assume the honorary post following the chamber's annual dinner in January.
Also at today's meeting Dr. Sasha Noe, a board-certified family physician, will discuss osteopathic medicine and preventative health care.
The luncheon is sponsored by South Bay Hospital.
The cost is $12 at the door for chamber members and $15 for guests.
