Sound Exchange to Relocate to Bloomingdale

The popular music store will move to the Kings Row Shopping Center on Bloomingdale Avenue and Kings avenues.

In an effort to be closer to its customers, the Sound Exchange is moving to 807 W. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon, in the Kings Row Shopping Center anchored by Big Lots, July 1.

For more than 20 years, the Sound Exchange has been nestled in a shop in La Viva Plaza on Lumsden Road. However, general manager Jim Butcher said it was time to make a move.

"We wanted to be in a more convenient location for more shoppers," said Butcher.

Sound Exchange has Florida’s largest inventory of new and used CDs, DVDs, vinyl records, classic stereo equipment and video games. The store also does special orders and stocks a minimum of 30,000 CDs, DVDs and video games in each store, plus tens of thousands of vinyl LPs.

In addition, music lovers can sell or trade at the three Tampa Bay area stores. A range of $1 to $5 is offered for most CDs, although exceptions can occur on both ends of that range. A range of $1 to $6 is typically offered for DVDS, however, high-end DVDs and box sets can bring a little or a lot more. Sound Exchange buys vinyl LPs for 25 cents to $2, though certain "collectible" titles can command a higher price. And the store typically pays $1 to $8 for video games.

"Since the launch of our new Website, customers can now see and order the inventory from all of our stores and our warehouse, which greatly increases our overall selection while reducing the need for duplication of inventory at each store," said Butcher.

The old store at La Viva will remain open until the new store opens.

Hours at the new Brandon store will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
