Robeks Now Offering Juices, Salads Made With Local Produce

The collaboration gives residents the benefit of healthy organic vegetables while supporting local farmers.

Residents can now get organically grown local produce added to their juices or salads at Robeks Fruit Smoothies & Healthy Eats, 1044 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico.

Owner Mike Freid has joined forces with Riverview resident Renee Watley of A Simpler Place in Time to bring customers such locally grown produce as collard greens, green chard, arugula, Okinawa spinach, Lacinto kale and sunflower shoots.

A Simpler Place in Time delivers local organic produce directly to consumers.

"Since people are focusing more on eating healthy, organic foods, I decided to join forces with A Simpler Place in Time and have the produce delivered directly to my store," said Freid.

Each week, Freid will feature a variety of local produce in season that customers can add to juices, salads and wraps.

"It gives our customers a chance to try some unique items while supporting local growers," said Freid. "It's all good, wholesome stuff."

Freid says he's enjoyed trying new vegetables such as the Okinawa spinach, which is dark green on one side of the leaf and dark purple on the other side.

"I love the sunflower shoots," said Freid. "I take a handful and put it on my sandwich instead of lettuce. It has a sweeter taste."
