Riverview Mayor Candidates To Announce At Barnacles In Brandon

Outgoing Honorary Mayor of Riverview Elijah Heath speaks at a Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce meeting about the Aug. 6 kickoff event.

At Barnacles in Brandon on Tuesday, Aug. 6, candidates for the 2014 race for honorary mayor of Riverview will officially throw in their hats, signifying their commitment to buy their way into office with the most dollars raised for charity.

The person to unseat is Elijah Heath, this year's honorary mayor of Riverview, who also is a member of the Rotary Club of FishHawk/Riverview and the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce, which each year runs the honorary mayor race.

"Mayor Heath" is set to host the 2014 Honorary Mayor of Riverview Race Kickoff Party, as announced by the chamber online. Everyone who attends is asked to wear a hat, so that no one will know who officially is "throwing their hat into the ring" until the designated time.

"Money raised will support the candidate's charity of choice and the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce," reads the chamber invite. "There is no charge to attend" and "appetizers will be provided by our sponsors, Barnacles and Edward Jones-Elijah Heath."

The event is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Barnacles in Brandon, at 926 Providence Road.
