An award-winning restaurant is set to fill the vacated Cherry's Bar & Grill space at the Bloomingdale Square shopping center, anchored by Publix and Walmart.

BurgerMonger is set to open this fall in the space vacated by Cherry's Bar & Grill at the Bloomingdale Square shopping center in Brandon, at the crossroads of Bloomingdale Avenue and Bell Shoals Road.

The restaurant will be the fourth for owners Jake Hickton and Bob Slane, who also have eateries in Carrollwood and Wesley Chapel.

"We have a lot of regular customers who come from the Brandon area so we had a lot of requests for coming out here," said Lisa Peptula, BurgerMonger's business manager, in a telephone interview June 12. "We're very excited to be in Brandon."

Peptula said the BurgerMonger in Bloomingdale, promoted as the young chain's Brandon location, is anticipated to open in the fall.

According to the BurgerMonger Web site, the restaurant features hand-crafted burgers, fresh-cut fries and fresh-baked buns.

A company news release notes that BurgerMonger has been recognized by Tampa Bay Times readers as the “#1 Burger in Tampa Bay.”

BurgerMonger's "family friendly menu features gourmet hamburgers and hot dogs using 100 percent pure Japanese Akaushi Kobe beef, hand-cut French fries made from premium Idaho potatoes, and handcrafted Häagen-Dazs ice cream shakes and malts."

The company also wants you to know:

  • "A monger is a trader or dealer of fine goods. Mongers are well-known for their ability to pick only the premium and highest quality goods to sell or trade."
  • The restaurant’s 6-ounce Monger starts at $6.99, including choice of cheese and an impressive variety of toppings and condiments.
  • BurgerMonger is unique in that it serves 100 percent Japanese HeartBrand Akaushi Kobe beef. For over a century this beef has only been available in Japan. In 1994, one breeding herd was exported from Japan and launched the HeartBrand Beef line in the states.
  • BurgerMonger also serves antibiotic and hormone-free natural Coleman chicken, Idaho Imperial Premium Grade Burbank potatoes cooked into natural beef tallow, not oil, and a veggie burger.
