New FishHawk Restaurant Hiring For August Opening

All positions need to be filled at Jake's Wayback Burgers, in the Publix-anchored shopping center across the street from the FishHawk Youth Sports Complex.

Quality food made from scratch and hand-dipped milk shakes served in stainless steel cups, in a restaurant featuring an open-view restaurant, are the benefits touted for a trip to the upcoming Jake's Wayback Burgers in FishHawk, where hiring for 25 positions is set to begin today, July 18, at 11 a.m.

"Bring your smiles and wow us," said FishHawk resident and managing partner Chris Scigliano, in an interview July 17. "We don't want you here because your mom wants you to get a job. We want you here because you want to be a part of our team and have fun while you're earning some money."

Hiring is for workers young and old, age 16 and up, although there are the regular restrictions for age 16 employees, Scigliano added.

The restaurant is in the Publix-anchored shopping center, at 5672 FishHawk Crossing Blvd. Applicants are set to be interviewed from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.

Sought are cooks, servers, milk- shake-makers and more and workers will be cross-trained for all positions.

If all goes as planned, the restaurant is set to open the first week of August, with a grand-opening event in September, Scigliano said. He added that a celebratory contest will be held, with an iPad awarded to the first person who finishes eating the "Triple, Triple Burger," comprised of nine patties, nine pieces of cheese and toppings.

  • Follow Jake's Wayback Burgers Facebook page for news about its opening, grand opening, hours, offerings and more. The menu features fresh burgers, but also hot dogs, Irish nachos, fresh greens and fresh grilled chicken, never frozen.

Scigliano said the restaurant's owner is Mark Van Damme, also a FishHawk resident. Both men have kids in local schools and the aim is to be deeply involved in the community, and with the sports teams across the street at the FishHawk Youth Sports Complex, where Scigliano said he once worked the baseball fields concessions stands.

"We're not going to be just a store in your community," he said. "We're going to be a part of your community."

Scigliano said he also worked as an area manager for Auntie Ann's pretzels, for a territory that included the Westfield Brandon shopping mall, and at the Aquatic Cafe at the FishHawk Aquatic Club.

"People ask, 'Do we need another hamburger place?' " Scigliano said.

Consider this, he added: "Here the burgers are not on wait for you." At Jake's Wayback Burgers, customers wait "eight minutes for fresh burgers made as you want them."

Also featured will be moblie meals delivery and customers can order online, at Jake's Wayback Burgers (with a link to the Lithia location) for burgers ready to pick up when they arrive.
