Mega Mall Planned for Big Bend Road

The new Southshore Commons Mall will be similar in size to the Westfield Town Center in Brandon.

Big Bend Road is about to get bigger – with a new shopping mixed-use mall boasting one  million feet of retail space.

According to the Osprey Observer, this mega mall will soon break ground. Called Southshore Commons, it also will boast 500,000 square feet of office space, a movie theater and hotel. Nationwide Realty and Equity, Inc. is behind the project.

The mall will be similar in size to the Westfield Town Center in Brandon. The new mall will be build in phases, with Phase One opening in 2015, according to the Soutshore Commons website.

Indeed, development is moving along at a clip on Big Bend Road.

Consumers should be pleased by the rapid-fire growth that is blazing down this Old Florida country street.

Here's just a sample of other new businesses moving in or expanding, according to the Osprey Observer:

  • Tuffy Auto Service Center, which just moved into a new building;
  • Marshall’s, which opens a store in Summerfield Crossings on May 9;
  • YMCA, which plans a Southshore Recreation Center with a lacrosse, soccer and T-ball fields, and swimming pools.
  • Newland Homes’ Waterset, which continues to expand and has room for 10,000 homes.
  • Baycare Health Systemsis building a hospital, St. Joseph’s South, that will open in 2015.
