Business & Tech

Jet's Pizza a Good Bet

They're right around the corner to success.

I overheard a few statements from a group of people about and they were mixed reviews so I decided to see for myself. I finally found the place at 13429 Boyette Rd., Riverview, on the corner of Fishhawk Boulevard and Boyette Road on the south side of the shopping center.

It is a tiny place with one 3-foot-long bench for waiting while your order cooks; other than that I suppose you could sit on the soda machine if you really needed to.

I understand why their business is promoted as an online pizza place. This is just my opinion but the counter needs to be moved back and put a few tables in the front and they might get a decent little lunch crowd. The kitchen is huge and a lot of space is wasted. It's none of my business when it comes to making small pizza places popular but I liked the manager Chris' attitude and his friendly manner and I would like for him to be successful as I would anyone who takes on the restaurant industry--it's a very tough world.

We joked about the BLT pizza and, rest assured, the lettuce is put on the top after the pizza leaves the oven, otherwise it would have been sickening to eat baked lettuce, I think.

I ordered the "All Meaty" pizza and a "Jet's Boat," which is actually their version of a calzone. The pizza was nice and, when it came out, Chris offered me an ultra crust where he drizzled a garlic/olive oil and Romano cheese blend around the exposed crust--very tasty. I wasn't particularly thrilled with the pellet sausage they used as opposed to real Italian sausage and I couldn't see any hamburger like the menu called for but it could also have been in pellet form. Other than that, it was very tasty with some nice, crisp bacon and plenty of pepperoni and ham.

The boat was another story! The boat is a crescent-shaped and baked pastry filled with whatever you ask for. I ordered the pepperoni boat and, when I opened it, a flood of marinara soup erupted everywhere. The sauce was very tasty and I couldn’t see wasting a nice-looking piece of pastry so I scooped most of the sauce out and added some extra cheese and micro-waved it for a couple of minutes and it turned out to be a spectacular meal.

I also see where they have ads out for delivery drivers and pizza makers for all shifts so maybe something good is about to happen.

I’m giving these guys three stars and a lot of that is due to the friendly faces I encountered. They would have another half star if it weren’t for the Marinara Ocean I floated on.

1 Star--Wouldn't go back on a bet

2 Star--Would have to go back, but only on a bet

3 Star--If I was in the neighborhood and hungry

4 Star--Would go out of my way even if I wasn't hungry

5 Star--Would make reservations and wait in a line
