Five Guys Burgers and Fries

Good stuff.

I wanted to have meeting with a friend to go over some video production we are involved in together, and he suggested the Five Guys Burgers and Fries on Bloomingdale Avenue near Providence Road. The actual address is 6022 Winthrop Town Center Ave. in Riverview, and it is well worth the trip.

I went to that particular location a few weeks back and, quite frankly, I was unimpressed at the general appearance, so I left. My friend, Matt, assured me that I needed to give it another chance, and was he ever right.

I ordered the double cheeseburger with jalapenos, a small drink and a small Cajun fry. Holy smoke! The cheeseburger was made from fresh meat I watched them cook on a flat-top grill, and the fries were as fresh as can be. The fries are stacked in the dining area by the 75-pound bagful and brought into the back room on a daily basis and run through a vegetable punch. Talk about Cajun seasoning--I had to stop several times to dilute the fireball forming in my throat, and you don't hear me tell people to turn down the heat often. I ordered a small fry but the joke was on me since they show a small cup on the display board but then fill up the bag with extras. I ate plenty and still took a half bag home.

The small soda was priced $1.99 and the large was $2.19, and both came with free refills--think about the sense of humor the author to that menu must have.

The menu was simple -- burgers, hot dogs and fries--ta da! All of the amenities came free with the burger from onions to mushrooms to jalapenos, plus about 12 other items listed under the meat section. As if that wasn't enough, boxes of peanuts are scattered throughout for you to munch on while your food cooks. The place was extremely clean from top to bottom; I even looked for potato dust under the racks in the front room but couldn't find any.

I'm giving these Five Guys 3 1/2 stars--an excellent experience.  I'll be back, guaranteed.

1 Star--Wouldn't go back on a bet

2 Stars--Would have to go back, but only on a bet

3 Stars--If I was in the neighborhood and hungry

4 Stars--Would go out of my way even if I wasn't hungry

5 Stars--Would make reservations and wait in a line
