FishHawk Resident Opens Voice, Piano Studio

Tracey Magruder teaches singers, musicians of all ages.

With the recent opening of her private, home-based voice and piano school, FishHawk Ranch resident Tracey Magruder said she's living her dream.

Music has played a major role in Magruder's life.

"I've been performing as long as I can remember," she said. "I started singing as a kid and performed in my church choir, in community theater and dance classes. Then, when I was 13, I started taking piano lessons."

The Maryland native began teaching piano at the age of 17 before heading to the American University in Washington, D.C., where she majored in voice performance. After graduation, she followed her parents to Florida in 2006.

"I had the dream of performing on Broadway for awhile but realized I really, really love teaching," she said. "Having my own studio was my dream."

However, it took several years before Magruder was ready to strike out on her own and open her home-based studio. She said the encouragement of her husband, Randy, was the motivation she needed. The couple were married in June after meeting at a local community theater production.

"We had the perfect space for a studio at our home and it was just the right time to pursue my dream," said Magruder.

Magruder offers weekly lessons for all levels of voice and piano instruction. The private lessons can run from a half hour to one hour. The cost begins at $60 a month.

"I try to make it as fun and relaxing as possible," said Magruder.

When Magruder isn't teaching, she and her husband continue their involvement in community theater. Both recently performed in the Stage Door Performing Arts production of "The Odd Couple." Magruder also has performed in "Oklahoma" with Stage Door, "Assassins" with the Village Players and served as musical director for Footlights Theatre Productions' production of "Sweeney Todd."
