The Hancock family opened the Bloomingdale Avenue business in 2008. The family also has been in business since 1976 at Riverveiw Tire and Auto on U.S. Highway 301.

The car-wash fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is near and dear to the heart of employee Lynn Sanders, who said at the Bloomingdale location June 5 that she was a nurse for five years at the Wimauma Family Health Center.

"I've always listened to the St. Jude marathon on 99.5 every year and I thought it was a very good cause," she said, about her interest in helping to establish the "Washing for a Cause" fundraiser.

As a nurse, she added, she worked eight years ago with Chloe, a 7-year-old leukemia patient who went into remission.

"I was the only nurse who could take care of her," Sanders said. "Anything I did to her I had to do to her doll, too."

Christine Hancock held with Sanders the banner that will be on display at the Saturday car washes.

"My mom's a doctor, so I've always grown up around [people] helping with health care and research for health care," Hancock said.

"I've had family members with cancer in the past," she added, "so any research to help families in need, I'm behind it."
