At New Bloomingdale Thrift Store, Find Treasures of Today and Yesterday

Back by Demand may have celebrated its grand opening only a couple weeks ago, but it is already creating quite a stir among treasure hunters.

They say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. At Back by Demand Thrift Store Consignment, Boutique & Snack Shoppe, owners Joseph and his wife JoAnna Caltagirone Piazza believe a similar philosophy.

Located in the Bloomingdale Plaza, the store is home to many unique treasures. According to Caltagirone Piazza, the name of the shop, Back by Demand, signifies that items once used and sent to a faraway place have now returned for resale due to the “demand” of individuals who enjoy finding things that are reasonably priced, unique or hard to find.

A variety of items, from clothing and electronics to collectibles, toys, sports memorabilia and furniture can be found at the store.

“The main focus is thrift of any and all kinds,” said Caltagirone Piazza. “Let's put it this way, if we don't have it today, maybe we'll have it tomorrow. Just keep checking back with us.”

According to Caltagirone Piazza, the addition of a “Snack Shoppe” cafe is in the works for the store. Customers will be able to order a variety of flavored coffees and hot teas, Coke products, cookies, Danishes, possibly Cuban toast and other handy snacks. They also will be able to relax in the “Book Nook Lounge” with free Wi-Fi.

Both Joseph and JoAnna Caltagirone Piazza are proud supporters of the local Breast Cancer Foundation and the SPCA of Tampa Bay (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Patron contributions at the store help support these charities as well.

Customers are encouraged to "Discover Today the World's Treasures of Yesterday" by visiting the thrift store. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The store is closed on Sunday and Monday in order for the owners to pick up donations and/or consignment items, sort and price new items, and clean and organize the store for the following week.
