Artists Sought for 4th Annual Winthrop Arts Festival

This year's festival will take place March 24-25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m,

Wanted: painters, sculptors, potters, jewelry makers and glass artists.

Fine artists of all mediums are invited to participate in the fourth annual Winthrop Arts Festival scheduled for March 24-25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Winthrop Town Centre.

According to Bryant Martinez, Winthrop Town artist, spaces are available for 100 artists to participate in this juried art show that's free to the public.

"We already have had quite a few artists register for the event," said Martinez including Ruth Hanke who makes amazing pine needle baskets, Susan Jordan, Cynthia Cole, Jennifer Mackey, Debra Bryant, Felix Valezquez, Phillip Ranalli, Beth Kauffman and sculptor Robert Woods, artists from throughout Tampa Bay and even from out of state."

The annual art show kicked off four years ago with a couple of dozen artists and has grown steadily over the past four years, said Martinez.

The show, juried by Vialos Tonape of Polk State College and John Harding of Hillsborough Community College, includes awards for the artists.

"I'm very pleased with the registrations we've received so far," said Martinez. "This art show just keeps getting bigger and better.

Those attending also will be able to indulge in a variety of foods, thanks to the Tampa food trucks, which will be on site both days.

A children's tent featuring crafts for kids will be manned by Hillsborough Community College students.

In addition, a number of nonprofit groups will be on hand with information including the Brandon Emergency Care Help Organization, the Brandon Outreach Clinic and the Fighting Flamingos breast cancer organization.

There will be entertainment throughout the show including the stylings of classical Spanish guitarist Nelson Mariscal on Saturday and the original music of guitarist Ian White on Sunday.
