15 Local Businesses to Be Honored at Annual Small Business Awards Banquet

Winners of the Small Business of the Year Awards will be announced Oct. 20.

It's come down to 15 small businesses.

Judges from the Service Corps of Retired Executives reviewed more than 200 nominations for the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce's annual Small Business Awards before deciding on this year's nominees, including a business that picks dog doody and another that straightens kids' teeth.

But only five will be named Small Business of the Year. That honor will be bestowed on Thursday, Oct. 20, when the chamber celebrates its 30th anniversary of honoring small businesses at the Crowne Plaza Tampa East, 10221 Princess Palm Ave., Tampa, starting at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception and continuing at 7 p.m. with dinner and a program.

One winner from each employee category will be chosen to accept the honor. Categories are home-based businesses, minority- and women-owned business, businesses with one to five employees, businesses with six to 15 employees and businesses with 16 and more employees.

The awards are based not only on the success of the business but on its community involvement.
