FishHawk Softball Fundraiser for 'Relay for Life'

Relay for Life FH Softball

'RELAY for LIFE'  Fundraiser by FishHawk Softball League

Before we get down to talking Fishhawk Softball for this coming weekend, I would like to ask the Fishhawk Softball League, to once again, RISE TO THE OCCASION to show Tampa, Florida the power we possess as a unified group.

The American Cancer Society is holding its Relay For Life on March 31st. One of OUR softball players in the league, Vince Kennedy who plays on Bridgeview, is this year’s Honorary Survivor Chair.

For those of you that know the name but not the face……I have attached Vince’s picture.

I am one of the many fortunate that have had the pleasure to talk with Vince. He is one of the classiest, nicest guys in the league and a pure pleasure to be around. His constant smile is contagious amongst his fellow Bridgeview teammates and the strength he has displayed during these difficult times lets you know Vince is a very special person.

Vince is a 42 year old husband to wife Mary (also a cancer survivor) and father of a 10 year old girl (Sarah Grace) and 5 year old boy (Patrick). Vince was diagnosed with stage 4 Colon Cancer that metastasized to his liver in July 2011. He underwent a 12 hour surgery at Moffitt Cancer Center to save his life back in August, and he continues to go through extensive chemotherapy treatments.

Recently, Vince has come back to join his Bridgeview teammates to play the game he loves, FH Softball. The American Cancer Society has chosen Vince to be the 2012 Relay For Life Honorary Survivor Chair. Vince lives in Ibis Park.

We, as a unified group, have been in this situation before and have ALWAYS risen to the occasion to let people know that the Fishhawk Softball league is, first and foremost, about helping OUR community. I personally can tell you that our past fund raisers HAVE made a difference in the lives of one of our fellow softball players, Matt Schwartzlander, in addition to our very own Beavis Elementary teacher, Mrs. Nance. In the end, it’s not about the monetary donation that changes these victims lives, it’s the warmth and pleasure they feel from such a large group of people, that even though they may never have met face to face, they KNOW and feel they are there to support them. That SMILE……….that FEELING…………that BUZZ………...can never be replaced or duplicated by any medication or treatment.

So……….the most famous orange ‘bucket’ in Florida will be hung behind home plate this weekend, for Saturday’s games and Sunday’s All Star Festivities. The proceeds will be given to Vince to be contributed to his team’s donations for the Relay For Life event on March 31st.

Take a second to think about the ‘last time you were able to make a difference in someone’s life’………..and seize the moment !!!!!!!!!!!!!

We play in this softball league for ‘peanuts’ yet it’s a weekly event that we all look forward too.

Let’s again, rise to this calling and show the support that only FH softball can display.
