Spots Filling Fast for 5th Annual Winthrop Arts Fest

This year's festival takes place March 23-24 at Winthrop Town Centre in Riverview.

Artists interested in exhibiting their works at the fifth annual Winthrop Arts Fest should act now.

According to organizer Bryant Martinez, artist in residence at Winthrop Town Centre, there are only seven slots remaining for artists interested in showing their fine arts and crafts at the March 23-24 show.

"This is becoming a tradition in this area now," said Martinez of the arts fest that takes place each spring at Winthrop Town Centre on Bloomingdale Avenue, just east of Providence Road in Riverview.

Martinez said last year's festival featured 73 exhibitors including fine artists of all mediums, unique crafts made from recycled materials and area nonprofit groups.

"This year I'd like to have 90 exhibits," he said.

He added that it's been fairly easy attracting artists to the fifth annual show.

"Word has gotten around," he said. "The artists were very happy with their sales and promotions last year. A large percentage will be returning artists. We've even got artists coming from North Carolina and Minnesota."

This is a juried show with seven monetary awards and gift certificates. This year's judges are Debra Bryant, curator of the Beaux Arts Gallery in Winthrop, and Hillsborough Community College professor John Hardin.
