Regent to Host 'So Your Think You Can Paint' Competition

Do you have skills with a paintbrush? Never picked up a brush but want to give it a go? Then bring your finished painting down to the Regent this January for the "So You Think You Can Paint? The Greater Brandon Edition 2012" competition.

There is no entry fee; enter up to three paintings for free.

Last year’s “So You Think You Can Paint?” competition was so successful at the Centre Gallery in Tampa and the Spoke Gallery in Chicago that Vincent Kral and his SYTYCP crew is offering the community members of the greater Brandon area the opportunity to participate in this art exhibition. 

On Jan. 20-22, members of the community can drop off their paintings at the Regent to participate in the exhibition. The Regent will accept paintings of any subject, size or format. The judging will not be based on concept, so all are welcome. A panel will critique the submitted paintings based on skill and the artist’s handling of the medium. 

The judging process is a reinterpretation of the reality TV judging shows. A video of the judging process will be shown during the reception and awards presentation from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25.  Five grand prizes and five special category prizes will be awarded to selected winners.

As an added bonus, gallery patrons will all be eligible to enter a free raffle to win a painting kit from AOE Art supply to take home and start painting with after being inspired by all of the paintings in the exhibition.
