Mother, Son to Be Featured in Center Place Art Show

Bloomingdale East resident Doreen Donovan and her son, Steven, will present "A Different Art View" through Oct. 27.

Award-winning artist and longtime Bloomingdale East resident Doreen Donovan has teamed up with her artist son, Steven, to present "A Different Art View."

The mother-son duo will feature their diverse art styles in the Mook Gallery at , 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon, through Oct. 27.

Residents are invited to view the exhibit and meet the artists at a reception from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday evening, Oct. 6.

The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

A Center Place art instructor, Doreen Donovan has been painting watercolors for 10 years. She also dabbles in acrylics.

“Watercolors are more challenging for me,” she said. “Mistakes are harder to correct."

While his mother prefers realistic subjects, Steven Donovan focuses on the fantastic.

"My painting is about surrealism," said Steven, who prefers using oils. "I deal with images, trying to tap into subconscious."
