Cards for the Troops

Center Place Fine Arts and Civic Association and The Community Roundtable are sponsoring the four annual Cards for Troops project Saturday, Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon. Last year, the organizations created more than 3,000 cards for service personnel. This is a free community event to show support for troops stationed overseas. Since there are no greeting card stores for the military, volunteers will assemble these hand-made cards. The inside is left blank for the soldiers to write a personal sentiment to their families. Here are ways for you to get involved:
1. Volunteers - Have fun assembling the cards. Snacks will be provided for participants
2. Sponsorship - The total cost of supplies is more than $3,000. All donations in $100 increments will have the donor’s name placed on a label attached the back of 100 cards. Logos also will be displayed on all fliers and posters.
3. Food donations - Any amount of food is welcome. The business will be listed on all fliers and posters.
4. Soldiers’ addresses - If you have an address of a someone overseas, please provide their complete address. The groups will send them a package of cards to distribute throughout their unit. The organizations are especially interested in sending cards to those in the foreign hospitals to send to their loved ones.

If you can help with any of the above items, please contact Dawn Galia at Center Place, 813-685-8888. Checks should be made payable to Center Place. Contributions are a 501 (c)(3) tax deduction.
