Brandon Ballet to Offer Scholarship

A $500 scholarship is available in memory of Richard Munro.

News Report:

In connection with Brandon Ballet’s Summer Intensive Auditions, Brandon Ballet will again select one auditioning dancer to receive The Richard Munro Memorial Scholarship, a scholarship of up to $500 intended to further the recipient’s classical ballet education.

The late Richard Munro spent his life nurturing the art of ballet as a ballet master, an artistic director and a ballet academy founder in Kentucky and Texas before moving to Brandon, where he spend the last six years of his life teaching, coaching, choreographing and performing for Brandon Ballet.  Because of his tremendous contributions to Brandon Ballet, The Richard Munro Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honor his memory.

One scholarship winner between the ages of 13 and 18 will be selected based on his or her audition, without consideration of the dancer’s training and performing affiliations. The recipient may use the scholarship to offset the cost of any 2012 summer ballet intensive program to which the recipient is accepted. Brandon Ballet will send the scholarship proceeds directly to the program of the winner’s choice on behalf of the winner.

Auditions will take place Saturday, March 3, at the Dance Center, 161 E. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The audition cost is $25.
