Bloomingdale Library Workshop Provides Tips on Making Holiday Cards

Scrap-book expert shows local attendees how easy and fun it can be to make your own holiday cards

Christine LaCasse from Custom Creations by Christine began her career by accident.

A pet lover and owner of four cats and two dogs, she was on a search for a pet sympathy card and was less than impressed with her choices.

Already a fan of scrap booking, it occurred to LaCasse that she could make her own. In a partnership with Oaklane Kennels, she began offering her cards for sale there and, by Christmas time, the owner was wondering where the Christmas cards were.

Since then, LaCasse's creations have grown to include custom cards for any holiday or special occasion. By her display at Oaklane Kennels on Miller Road, her Web site, http://www.3csonline.com, and word of mouth, her business has grown.

During a first-time workshop Dec. 4 at the Bloomingdale Regional Library, LaCasse shared her knowledge and creativity with those interested in making holiday cards of their own.

She covered the basics of card making and provided ideas for economical holiday cards for friends and family. In addition, she promoted the idea of recycling items from around the house, such as ribbon, old cards, gift tags and old wrapping paper.

She has even found ways to re-use some of the junk mail she receives to make  cards.

"I am amazed that this has turned into what it has," said LaCasse. "I didn't used to think that I had a creative bone in my body."

The workshop was made possible by the Friends of the Library, an organization of residents who offer various programs and raise funds for the library.
