Artists, Experts Sought to Exhibit, Perform, Instruct at The Regent

The Regent is hosting monthly art exhibits, an Open Mic Night and a Teach Your Talent workshop.

News Report

In its continuing efforts to reach out to the community, The Regent is issuing a call to all area artists interested in exhibiting their original works in the downstairs Community Room at The Regent, 6437 Watson Rd., Riverview.

The Regent plans to host monthly art exhibits, according to Regent Executive Director Kristen Kerr.

To be considered, artists must submit a completed and signed application, up to five digital images of their artwork, an artist's statement, a resume and an agreement to deliver and display the artwork.

The Regent does not hold insurance to cover damaged or stolen works. Accepted art must arrive ready to hang/install in a professional manner. If the artist isn't personally picking up and dropping off the pieces, the artist must pay for the full cost of packaging and shipping his or her work to the gallery and back to the artist's address. Packaging should be provided to return works of art.

Retail pricing of a work of art will be determined by the artist and included in the exhibit. The Regent will not handle sales but will provide the artist's contact information to any potential buyers.

In addition to the monthly art exhibits, The Regent is hosting an Open Mic Night Feb. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Singers, poets, musicians and performance artists are invited to participate in Open Mic Night. Each reader/performer should be prepared for no more than six minutes of performance.

Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Two dollars will be charged at the door to offset the costs of the event.

To sign up to participate or to RSVP, contact Kerr at kristen@experiencetheregent.com or 813-571-2494.

The Regent will host its first Teach Your Talent workshop Jan. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room. Hillsborough Community College student and Riverview resident Matthew Vargas will provide instruction on how to draw faces, eyes, eyelashes and face features. Pencils and paper will be provided.

Teach Your Talent is open to anyone with a special talent, skill or knowledge who wants to share their specialty with members of the community. Teach Your Talent will take place once a month for 90 minutes. The time and day is dependent upon the availability of the resident and The Regent's events schedule.
