Women's Health Fest Planned at The Regent

Women tend to put the health of their families ahead of their own. However, on April 16 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at The Regent at Winthrop in Riverview, women are invited to put themselves first and enjoy a day of health, wellness, happiness and fun at Healthy Women…Healthy Communities.

“Our lives are hectic!  The time we have to care for our personal needs is limited,” explained Alicia Schulhof, COO, Brandon Regional Hospital. “We have family to tend to, children to play with and careers that cannot be put on hold.  Most of us are putting other priorities first and our health falls by the wayside.  This forum gives ladies an opportunity to learn together in a comfortable, educational and fun environment.  I am excited that so many members of our community, especially the St. Petersburg Times, The PHM Group, Gresham, Smith and Partners, Tampa Bay Cancer Center, Advanced Diagnostics & Hearing Solutions, and other companies, joined together with Brandon Regional and South Bay Hospitals to help us put women’s health first.”

          This informative and fun event begins at 8 a.m.  Women can visit with local vendors like AAA, Advanced Diagnostics & Hearing Solutions, Arbonne International, The Bridges, Best Buy, DayDreams Day Spa, GNC Live Well, Carol L. Roberts, Hope Chiropractic Wellness Center, Lifestyle Family Fitness, Medrock Pharmacy, New Earth Candles, Tampa Bay Radiation Oncology, Total Health Consulting and We Skincare & Wellness.  Pastries and coffee provided by Sumatra Bistro Café & Bakery.  Tea and scones provided by Victorian Grace Tea Room.

At 9 a.m. women can choose one of the following health talks:  Women, Stress, Depression, given by Deb Waurishuk, ARNP; My Aching Back, given by Donna Saatman, MD, neurosurgeon; Sex in the 40 Somethings and Beyond, given by Lisa Martin, ARNP.

After a short break to visit with vendors, women are invited to attend one of the 10:30 a.m. health sessions:  Surgical Solutions for Weight Loss, given by Alfredo Fernandez, MD, Certified Bariatric Center of Excellence surgeon; Management of Early Stage Breast Cancer, given by Mary Koshy, MD and Janelle Park, MD; and Menopause, Hormones, Health & Happiness, given by Alice Honiker, ARNP. 

At 12:15 p.m., lunch will be provided by The Catering Company and desserts by The Original Leena’s Chocolates in a beautifully decorated room provided by Whidden Florist of Brandon.  Lunch will also be a time of fun as we are excited to provide our guests with music and scenes from the upcoming production of Bye Bye Birdie performed by The Village Players of Valrico.

We are also pleased to announce that John Monaco, M.D., pediatric intensivist, will also speak briefly during lunch about childhood obesity and introduce his new book Too Small To Be Big, co-written with actress Ricki Lake who is also known for her struggles with obesity.
