Video: Cancer Fighter Sells 'Sax-of-Grams' at Relay For Life

Bloomingdale High School senior Ian Crumpton put his musical talents to work at the 2013 Bloomingdale Relay For Life, selling "sax-o-grams" on the track in his fight against cancer.

"I'm walking for my grandpa," said Crumpton, band captain for the Bloomingdale Rajun' Bull Marching Band, whose "sax-o-grams" added a musical undertone to the walkers on the track. " "I never got to meet him because of cancer."

People who knew his grandfather "always talk about him, he's so revered," Crumpton said. "They talk about how much they loved him. I just really wish I could have gotten to meet him, too."

To prevent others from being in a similar situation, having to hear about relatives they never met because of cancer, Crumpton was busy playing his saxophone at the Bloomingdale Relay For Life.

"Any donation, big or small, I'll play for you," he said April 5, at the overnight fundraiser on his school's football field, where Crumpton typically is found playing with one of Hillsborough County's most-accomplished marching bands. "And I take requests."

In all, there are six Relays in Eastern Hillsborough County. Collectively they have raised more than $322,000, according to an April 6 tally online, and there are months to go before the deadline to donate passes.
