Trey Curry Foundation Pledges $400,000 to a Kid's Place

A fifth home at the facility in Brandon will be named for Clifton "Trey" Curry III, who died in 2008 at the age of 20.

The Trey Curry Foundation will present a $400,000 donation to A Kid's Place in Brandon. As a result, a fifth home at the facility for children who have been neglected or abused will be named the Trey Curry House.

Clifton "Trey" Curry III of Valrico died March 1, 2008, at the age of 20. Following his untimely death, his family established the foundation to help children in need.

Since then, the foundation has hosted an annual fishing tournament, the Treyfest and the Vine to Wine fundraising auction to raise funds in Curry's memory.

As a result of those fundraisers, on Feb. 24, the foundation, represented by Curry's parents, Clif and Terry, and his siblings, Mary Beth and Colton, will unveil the Trey Curry House at A Kid's Place on Lithia-Pinecrest Road in Brandon.

Also expected to be on hand for the celebration are Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee and Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi.

“Trey loved kids; he loved being around them, showing them how to do things,” said Terry Curry, director of the Trey Curry Foundation. “Supporting A Kid’s Place seemed like a great fit, and it’s right in our back yard.”

“We are very fortunate that the Trey Curry Foundation has stepped up in a big way to help take care of our community’s most vulnerable children,” said Wayne Witczak, executive director of Kids Charity of Tampa Bay. “We have an obligation to make sure our children are protected, and when tragedy hits, that they are loved and nurtured in a way that only improves their lives.”

A Kid’s Place serves as a safe, stable and nurturing environment for abused, abandoned and neglected children who have been removed from their homes by the courts.

Children staying at A Kid’s Place reside in a home-like setting with live-in house parents, and siblings are housed in the same home to provide consistency for the family unit. The average age of children served by A Kid’s Place is 5; the average length of stay is 65 days.

Other benefactors of the Trey Curry Foundation include Coastal Conservation Association of Tampa, the YMCA, Coach Tim Marcum's celebrity fishing tournament to benefit the Wounded Warrior Foundation, Kid's Christmas Presents with O'Brien's, Center Place of Brandon, Hillsborough Community College, Hooked on Hope and the Oklahoma Wesleyan University baseball team.
